First-time filmmaker, Heather Robertson showcases Comedy/Mockumentary “Casting Adrift” at Palm Beach International Film Festival April 15-22nd, 2004

PALM BEACH, FL March 16, 2004--Eyes and EARS from all over the world will have three chances to experience “Casting Adrift” at this year’s 2004 Palm Beach International Film Festival April 15-22nd.

For Native New Yorker, first-time filmmaker Heather Robertson, the three screenings Friday, April 16 - Muvico Parisian 20 at CityPLace - 4:15 .m. , Sunday, April 18 - Muvico Parisian 20 – CityPLace- 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, April 22 - Mizner Sunrise Cinemas- 1:45 p.m. provide an opportunity to showcase her three key bodies of work as Director, Writer and Producer. In a 2004 film festival tour circuit all over the U.S., Robertson is introducing her signature Comedy/Mockumentary film style.
   
“What do I hope people will walk away with after seeing the film? As many laughs as possible, and a little respite from the world of logic,” states Robertson who had to logically solve several challenges while making the film. From resolving a location glitch two weeks before shooting; to mandating a "No Shoes" rule for cast and crew in the middle of a wintertime; and finalizing half her cast 48 hours before principal photography, Robertson has a unique learning-curve comedic outlook. “So what did I learn from all that? Be flexible, administer Scotch when necessary, and always pack slippers,” she explains.

“Casting Adrift” is about Popstar, Carlin Wilder’s wild adventure casting her favorite unemployed soap opera actors to co-star in her feature film directorial debut with rehearsals taking place in her East Hampton mansion for 2 weeks under strict instructions to not bring cell phones, companions or shoes. Documented by a video crew onsite takes the groups’ own reality beyond imagination, including Wilder’s request to “Kiss The Bunny.” The comedy stars Jamie Day, Dane Whitlock, Holly Perkins, Peter Cavanagh, Katy Barker and Erick Kastel.

Robertson is a graduate of St. Paul’s School and Georgetown University, where she received a B.A. in English Literature. She worked in television production’s “talk” genre through 1996 then enrolled in the New School’s MFA program in Creative Writing, making her way to New York Film Academy’s Intensive Digital Filmmaking Course. Robertson’s filmmaking thirst would be quenched when she met Dublin-native, John McKone. Collaborating on writing “Casting Adrift” launched Robertson into production in East Hampton, NY in February 2003, wrapping production in just 5 weeks. Robertson is the daughter of accomplished actors Cliff Robertson and Dina Merrill.
